Device Permissions
- Camera Access: Required to scan product barcodes. Camera data is processed locally on your device and is not stored or transmitted to our servers. Only the extracted barcode number is sent to retrieve product information.
- Internet Access: Required to fetch product data from food databases, perform AI-powered health scoring, and sync your account data if you choose to create an account.
Health Profile Data (Optional)
During onboarding, you may voluntarily provide health-related information to receive personalized food ratings. This includes:
- Age group (includes "Prefer not to say" option)
- Sex (includes "Other / Prefer not to say" option)
- Pregnancy or lactating status (includes "Prefer not to say" option)
- Health conditions or concerns (includes "None" option)
- Activity level
- Dietary preferences
- Food allergies
Important: We do not collect your name, exact date of birth, address, or other directly identifying personal information through the health profile. This health data is used solely to provide customized AI-powered food health scores tailored to your individual needs.
Account Information (Optional)
If you choose to create an account, we collect:
- Email address (for account authentication and communication)
- Authentication credentials (securely managed through our authentication provider)
You may use SharpScan as a guest without creating an account. Guest users receive general health scores without personalization.
Usage and Analytics Data
- App Analytics: We collect anonymous usage data including app interactions, feature usage, session duration, device type, operating system version, and app version. This helps us understand how users interact with our app and improve the experience.
- Crash Reports: Anonymous crash and error reports to help us identify and fix technical issues.
Product Scan Data
- Barcodes you scan are sent to third-party food databases to retrieve product information (ingredients, nutrition facts).
- If you are logged in, your scan history may be saved to your account for convenience.
How We Use Your Information
- Personalized Health Scoring: Your health profile data is sent to our AI service to generate customized food health scores (1-100) based on your specific dietary needs and health conditions.
- Product Information: Barcode data is used to fetch product details from food databases.
- App Improvement: Analytics data helps us improve app performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- Advertising: We display ads through third-party advertising networks. Ad personalization depends on your device settings and consent preferences.
- Communication: If you contact us, we use your provided information to respond to your inquiries.
Advertising
SharpScan uses third-party services to display advertisements. Ad networks may collect and use data for ad personalization based on your interests. You can manage your ad preferences through your device settings or opt out of personalized advertising.

Data Deletion
You have the right to delete your account and all associated personal data safely at any time. For detailed instructions, please visit our Data Deletion page.
- In-App Deletion (Recommended): You can instantly and permanently delete your account directly within the SharpScan app by navigating to Profile > Data Management > Delete Account. This action will immediately remove your profile, scan history, and authentication credentials from our systems.
- Request via Email: Alternatively, you may contact us with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 15 days.
Children's Privacy
SharpScan is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
